Public Figure Bios
Below are some short bios of some of Soothsayer's most famous political figures
Rook Sparring (1970-2027)
Often referred to as the "Father of Modern Soothsayer", Rook Sparring was born on August 6th of 1970 and was raised in the town Fernway just 10 miles north of Altamos. As a child, Sparring enjoyed a happy childhood with his father and mother, Greg and Julia Sparring. Rook had one older sister, one younger sister, and one younger bother. The Sparrings were traditional, Protestant, self-sustaining farmers who wanted as little to do with the rule of Roscoe Freire II as possible. Sparring went to school beginning at age 6 as was mandated by Soothsayland law, but most of his learning came from his parents, mainly his father, whom he had a close relationship with, though, not nearly as close as the relationship with his younger brother Abel. Sparring went to school at Creekside University in Tithnishan where he majored in Philosophy with a minor in Psychology. Sparring graduated from Creekside in 1992 and upon graduation, took a year off of school to travel to Europe. It was in Italy where he fell in love with his future wife Alyssa D'Estrelle who would move back to Soothsayer with him in the summer of 1993. Sparring then attended the University of Damadis for his graduate degree, where he and Alyssa lived in a condominium. The two were married in June of 1994 and upon the acquisition of a master's degree in 1996, Rook and Alyssa Sparring moved to Shailocon. Rook held a number of jobs, not able to commit to a single career. Rook and Alyssa had their first son Daniel in 1998. In 2000 another child, a daughter was on the way, but was not able to survive childbirth which affected Alyssa greatly and the two gave up on trying to have another child. On November 24th of 2012, Soothsayland troops, in response to a rapidly growing revolution, raided the hometown of Rook and Alyssa. In the raid, Sparring took up arms against the Soothsayland army, but the house was broken into, and Alyssa, upon attacking the soldiers, was raped and murdered, and the house set on fire, A neighbor heard the cries of Daniel Sparring in the house and was able to save him before the fire got to him. Unfortunately, the neighbor and his wife were chased out of the town with Daniel by Soothsayland troops before they could find Sparring, who, believing that both his wife and son had been killed, vowed revenge on Freire and the Soothsayland government. Sparring joined the town militia group as a Captain, joining with other militia groups to take out military bases, and liberate towns and cities under government control. Sparring's brilliant fighting style and skills in strategy earned him a reputation among revolutionary groups among the country, many of whom joined ranks under Sparring's command in an attempt to unify Soothsayland Revolutionary forces. Sparring was able to unite a massive revolutionary force that picked up momentum and numbers nearly exponentially. Sparring was unofficially but unanimously named General of the Soothsayland Revolutionary forces. It was his division that won decisive victories in Crescent Bay and the Forest of Guris that allowed rebel forces to raid the capital and forcibly remove fascist control over Soothsayer in 2016. Upon victory, Sparring was reunited with his son Daniel in what Sparring called "Possibly the happiest moment of my life". Sparring was unanimously chosen as the first President of Soothsayer's history where he took and greatly succeeded in the task of establishing a lasting democratic system in Soothsayer. Sparring left office as was Constitutionally mandated in 2024 and gave the reigns to his VP Mitch Allen. Sparring died in April of 2027 from Acute Heart Failure at the age of 57. His son Daniel is currently the youngest Colonel of the Soothsayland army at 31 and married with a newborn daughter.
"For four years of my life I lived in a perpetual state of dying, as far as I can remember, I ate, drank, and breathed death; I slept at the precipice of it, and when that was gone I realized I had forgotten how to live without it"
- Rook Sparring from his partially completed memoir Fractured Man (2026)
Mitchell Allen (1990- )
Mitch was born on September 16th in 1992 in the town of Gaiazalos outside of Shailocon as the first child of father Abraham Allen, and mother, Frances Allen. Mitch's father, Abraham Allen was a staunch critic of the regimes of Freire II and III and wrote many anonymous letters and articles opposing their rule. In April of 1992, the government found out about Abraham's actions and sent soldiers to the Allen residence to execute him. Mitch's mother Frances, who was three months pregnant with another child at the time, was able to barely escape the soldiers with Allen and flee to the house of her sister, Nellie Ertime who was unwed at the time. Frances went into labor on October 17, 1992, but many complications arose during childbirth which killed Frances and the baby daughter and left Allen, age two, in the care of his Aunt. In January of 1995, Allen's Aunt and guardian Nellie Ertime was married to Ted Yerti. Ted was a dedicated supporter of Freire's regime and demanded that Nellie not tell Mitch the truth about the death of his father as it would turn him against Freire. Nellie kept it a secret for nearly 9 years but on Allen's 13th birthday she let the truth slip. This caused a rift in the family and a lot of tension between Mitch and his step uncle whom here fused to talk to. Ted had many problems with alcohol and was very abusive towards Nellie though he usually left Allen alone. In his Sophmore year of high school, (2006) Allen met classmate Holly Mason and they started dating shortly afterward. Allen's uncle was reluctant about sending him to college and did not plan on paying for his education and instead wished he would join the army, but Allen received a full ride scholarship to the University of Dammadis and attended anyway. Holly was admitted there as well. In their Sophmore year, Holly was diagnosed with Brain Cancer and and was admitted to a hospital. Allen spent most of his time with Holly at the hospital and his grades reflected his decrease in effort, threatening his scholarship. In his junior year, Allen was drafted into the war with Camador. Allen quickly learned he had a knack for fighting, and in a stunt he pulled in Camador in rescuing a stranded squad and neutralizing the enemies in the area, he was awarded the Medal of Honor, a distinction that he partially detested due to his opinion of the war. In February of 2012 Allen was told that his girlfriend of six years, Holly Mason had died, and was given temporary leave from the war. Upon returning home he was greeted surprisingly warmly by his uncle until a fight broke out between then the next night and they refused to talk to one another, again. On March 24th, Allen snuck his way into delivering a speech at a Veterans for the War Rally in Shailocon where he was able to tear down Freire's war in front of thousands of war supporters and even more viewers. Allen was arrested and taken to federal prison in Damadis where he was stripped of his Medal or Honor. A bootleg of his speech was leaked all over the nation and acted as a can of gasoline for the spark of revolution. In August of that year, a group of revolutionary militia-men invaded the federal prison and freed the prisoners including Allen, who joined their ranks as a Captain. In the liberation of the city of Armagga, Allen met Anabel Kirstokov whom we convinced to join the ranks as a nurse, and the two soon established a relationship. Allen took his company to join the forces of Revolutionary General Rook Sparring in 2014 as a Colonel in conjunction with another revolutionary Dominic Ruskin. Mitch's brilliance in guerrilla warfare tactics helped the rebel army to massacre the Soothsayland army in the Stand at Guris which allowed the revolutionaries to take down the government. Allen played an integral role in drafting the nation's new Constitution and was chosen by President Rook Sparring to be the first vice-president of Soothayer. Mitch married Anabel in April of 2016 and the two have had two children, a son, Ethan, born in 2021 and a daughter, Ashara, in 2024. In that same year, Sparring left office and Allen campaigned for, and won the position of the second President of Soothsayer. Allen has pursued a very Libertarian oriented policy for Soothsayer and has enjoyed very high levels of popular support. In fulfilling a campaign promise, Allen has also fought alongside Soothsayland troops in two short military engagements as Commander and Chief.
"My hope for the world is that someday, no man on Earth will have seen the kind of things I have seen, nor have done the sorts of things I have convinced myself I needed to do"
- Mitch Allen in his first inaugurational address (2024)
Gregory Hoff (1988- )
Gregory "Greg" Hoff was born on October 27th, 1988 in Sugarpine, Soothsayer, a very small rural town located between two forks of the Sovisnegodu River, about 50 miles west of Shailocon. Hoff was born into a deteriorating family situation. His father Roger Hoff was a violent alcoholic and his mother was constantly sick and weak due to an immune system deficiency. Hoff spent as much of his childhood away from his family as possible, opting instead to hang out with his friends, most of whom were not looked at very kindly in the community for their irresponsible and illegal actions. At the age of 16, Hoff was put away in a juvenile detention facility for 8 months, and upon his release at the age of 17, spent most of his time in his room, apparently very sick. The family began to notice strange occurrences and noises in the house such as flying objects, loud banging sounds and damaged infrastructure that many believed were due to paranormal activity. It was soon suspected by the family that the activity was circled around Greg, who was rarely seen anymore. A paranormal investigator believed the young Hoff to be a poltergeist, while a priest declared him to be possessed and pushed for an excorsism to be done. Before it was, Hoff attacked both the priest and his father and escaped the house into the forest, never to return. For the next few months, Hoff spent his time in the forest, battling a demon inside of him and trying to find enough food and water to survive. As his condition worsened, Hoff was unable to get down food or drink, and was on the brink of death. Hoff claims to have collapsed by the Sovisnegodu one evening, and upon waking up, was face-to-face with his own demon whom he fought off, saving his life. Hoff admits that he does not know if it was a dream, if he was alive or conscious, or dead, but he fell back asleep and woke up the next day rid of all illness. Hoff spent the next few years migrating from city to city, finding a number of jobs to help sustain a modest source of income for rooming and food, he also developed a fondness for alcohol, illegal narcotics and prostitution. Hoff lived the life of a homeless nomad until the age of 21 when he signed up as part of the crew for a merchant vessel. Hoff lived as a sailor for the next three years until the business was brought to a close at the onset of the revolution. In January of 2013, Hoff was caught up in a skirmish between Soothsayland and revolutionary forces in the battle for the city of Fiyodon where he proved to be an extremely adept fighter and took command of a small militia group in a quest to destroy Soothsayer's fascist government. In September of 2013, Hoff's group joined forces with a large platoon led by Captain Mitch Allen in the battle for Armagga where the Soothsayland forces suffered a staggering defeat despite their attempt at a surprise attack of the city. Hoff was beaten in a series of competitions with Allen and gladly relinquished command of the team to Allen, taking up post as second in command. In 2014 their regiment joined forces with General Roscoe Freire and Hoff was given the ranking of Major. Hoff fought in the famous rebel stand at Guris and sacking of the royal tower, ending the Revolution in favor of the rebels and democracy. With Colonel Ruskin dead, and Colonel Allen and General Sparring retiring from military service, Hoff was the obvious choice for General of the new Soothsayland army and also helped to draft the new constitution though, he has taken no other ventures in politics. Hoff was severely injured in the joint attack on the Arcan prison system on Ragnarok, but has fully healed and is again the General of the Soothsayland army. Hoff is in a formal relationship but is not married.
"Pain doesn't exist, only human inability to cope with something different"
- Gregory Hoff to Mitch Allen (2015)
Theodore McCannon (1985- )
Theodore "Teddy" McCannon was born on July 4th 1985 in Dotaugrust to parents Franklin and Julia McCannon. Teddy was the youngest of the family, with three older sisters and no brothers. His parents were Anarchists who refused to have anything to do with the government and home-schooled their childen. Although such practice was illegal under the rule of Freire II and IV, the McCannon's were able to avoid detection from the government, who was almost unaware of the family's existence as all four McCannon children were born at home and have no formal bith certificates. Teddy McCannon was very close to his father, a very intelligent man who tought young Teddy almost everything he knew. McCannon did not attend any formal schools, including college, although he spent much of his time in his father's library and boasted great memorization skills and was proficient in French, Spanish and Latin (as well as fluent in Mengaegi and English) by the age of 16. At age 17, McCannon began to develop a romantic relationship with Amber Susi, a close friend of one of his youngest sister, who was 18 at the time and attending college in Dotaugrust at the time. The two dated for just over three years before they decided to get unofficially married (they did not have an official ceremony or sign any marriage liscence because of McCannon's Anarchist attitude and fear of the government). McCannon moved in with Amber and lived together in a modest rental house. It was difficult for McCannon to find work without his existence being detected by the government because Freire's communist policies made it difficult to find any non government job. McCannon soon decided to take up writing, primarily in fiction and poetry, which were subjects that interested his greatly all throughout his life. McCannon had made a deal with a business assoicate and friend Mark Elroy to publish the books under Elroy's name and give 75% of the earnings to McCannon under the table. Many of McCannon's literary works became very successful and allowed Amber and him to live a comfortably wealthy life. Seven years after the two moved in with each other, word began to spread through Dotaugrust about the revolutionary efforts against Freire's reign. Both McCannon and Amber decided to take up arms against the government, knowing this was the only chance they had at a normal life, and sought out a local militia group that was forming, fleeing Dotaugrust as local security began to crack down on political dissidents. The two fought in the Revolution for the next four years, mainly enlisting others into the revolution. Although the two fought through a number of battles during those four years, their largest battle would be just south of the forest of Guris, where they ran into a much larger Soothsayland army traveling south. The rebels hid just out of view of the army and engaged in guerrilla warfare, not knowing that these were the troops fleeing from the battle at guris, after battling intensely for a number of days, the rebels were able to get the large portion of the Soothsayland army to surrender, not knowing that Freire was dead and the war was already over. After their surrender, the Soothsayland troops told the rebels of the battle at Guris and the rebel invasion of Damadis, and the rebels and captured troops all traveled north into Damadis to find the rebels victorious. The McCannons were invited into the Constitutional committee and helped to draft Soothsayer's future. Theodore McCannon was appointed by Rook Sparring to be the first Secretary of State after being very impressed with McCannon's knowledge, intelligence and foresight. McCannon ran for President in 2024, but lost to current President Mitch Allen who offered McCannon the job of Vice-President, but McCannon refused, instead opting for the post of Secretary of State again. McCannon is looking into running once more for president in 2032. Theodore and Amber were officially married in March of 2016 and have two sons. McCannon's parents and three sisters are all also still alive.
"We cannot ever allow fear to change us, or we will have already lost. Half of the battle is in not letting fear do that to you"

Jacob Cruz (1989- )
Jacob Cruz was born on June 13th, 1989 in the town of Dannator, 15 miles west of Rogeth, to parents Jack and Melissa Cruz. Jacob was the oldest of three, with a brother Carlos, born in 1995 and sister Emily, born in 1997. Cruz's childhood was nothing out of the ordinary, his parents had a generally good relationship and enjoyed a healthy social life and excellent grades in school. Jacob Cruz received a scholarship to attend school at James Marshall University in norther Damadis, where he majored in mathematics. Upon graduating from James Marshall in 2010, Cruz was drafted into the Soothsayland army to fight in the war against Camador. Cruz was a private in the war for two years until he returned home on leave in 2012 and was told about the beginning of the revolution, which Cruz became very sympathetic toward when he was shown the video of Mitch Allen's speech at the Veterans for the War rally. Cruz returned to Camador with a very new idea about the war and the direction of his country and secretly rallied troops that felt the same as him. When word spread in early 2014 that the troops would be sent home to fight against the Revolution, many of the troops sympathetic to Cruz's cause thought it would be the perfect opportunity to join in with the rebels, but Cruz saw through the haze and thought otherwise. Cruz believed that the troops who Freire might find to be suspicious like himself and his friends would be detained and probably killed, as became the case. Cruz instead decided to get as many troops as he could to desert the military in Camador and find a way to escape back to Soothsayer in their own way, to avoid detection by the army and government. Cruz and his followers trekked across Camador into the Persian Empire, where they were able to catch a train to the Mediterranean and pay for a transport into the Andalusian territory of former Portugal and then into Soothsayer, supposedly as tourists. When in Soothsayer, they formed a rebel alliance and searched for other revolutionaries to fight with. Their experience and training as soldiers gave them a clear advantage over most of the rebels. In August of 2015, Cruz and an army of about 67,000, the second largest rebel force in the war, besieged the Soothsayland army in the battle for Dotaugrust, the longest, largest and most deadly battle of the war, it lasted over three months and then came to a close in December when the infamously cold Dotaugrust winter forced both armies out of the city and the Hangrasan Mountains with massive casualties on all sides and no clear winner. Cruz went into hiding in the forest of Thiamodo with a few hundred others and trekked north east towards the Haskavar marshlands with almost no military opposition. They hit the eastern coast and went around into Damadis where they joined forces with the likes of General Sparring, Colonel Allen and Major Hoff in the invasion of the capital city. The Revolution ended officially in February of 2016 and Cruz was chosen to represent the people of Soothsayer in drafting the new Constitution. Cruz was elected into congress in 2016, and in 2020, was re-elected for a second time and chosen by the congress to be the third congressional speaker, a position he was re-elected into again in 2022. In 2024, Jacob Cruz ran for President of Soothsayer but lost to Mitch Allen who offered Cruz the position of Vice President after Theodore McCannon declined. Cruz accepted the post and has been the VP of Soothsayer ever since. Jacob Cruz has announced he will run against for President in 2032. Cruz married Kelly Kabasha in 2021 and they have one daugher, Danielle Cruz, who was born in 2023.
"Wherever we go, and whatever may happen to us, we have nothing more to lose, if we are to die, we will die of fields of grass that is greener than these. War is not built upon death, War is death."
- Jacob Cruz to fellow soldiers in the War against Camador
Samuel Fargas (1986- )
Samuel Fargas was born in January 28th of 1986 in Damadis to Michelle Fargas, a single mother, who had a number of men in her life during Samuel's childhood but never married. Fargas was an only child and was overprotected by his mother, for he was really her only family, as she had strained relations with her parents and two sisters. Fargas was very antisocial for a good part of his childhood and even received therapy from a psychologist to try to make him more socially outgoing. By the age of 15, Fargas was already addicted to Alcohol which he used to buy from the kids in high school but quit outright by his senior year when Julie Amazar, one of Fargas' closest friends and love interest was killed in an automobile accident due to drunk driving. Despite the addiction, Fargas recieved grades in school that were good enough to get him into the University of Damadis, where he double majored in Politics and History. Fargas began to develop socially in college as he became more outgoing. Fargas pursued relationships with several girls, but none lasted longer than a year. Cruz graduated UoD in the summer of 2008 after attending for 5 years and receiving a bachelor's degree in both Politics and History. Fargas wished to attend the University of Tithnishan or Creekside for a bachelor degree in politics after a year long break, but was like so many men of his age, drafted into the war against Camador. After talking to his grief-stricken mom, he decided to try to escape the draft as best as possible. Fargas was successful in changing his name to Roy Davies by doctoring his birth certificate and driver's license and finding work in Horozca. Fargas worked at a steel mill in Horozca and kept up the rent on an apartment in the city, but was soon fed up with living conditions there are tried to find work in Tithnishan. in 2010, Fargas found work as a custodian in UoT which he liked because he was able to be a part of the scholarly community he had previously wished to join but he was able to pay for housing on campus. He was eventually promoted to maintenance officer and moved into an apartment off campus. Fargas fell in love with a UoT graduate student and TA Eliza Brown who agreed to move in with Fargas in spring of 2012, Their differences in political philosophy and his secret of being a draft dodger caused a rift between the two and they ultimately broke up in fall of that year. Michelle Fargas died a month after from a cocaine overdose and Fargas traveled back to Damadis tentatively for the funeral but was arrested by Soothsayland troops for being a suspected revolutionary. Fargas, or "Davies" as he was known, was detained and tried as a terrorist, but was acquitted after a long legal process. Fargas was left with his mother's house and assets but decided to sell the house and move back to Tithnishan. Upon selling the house, Fargas's false identity was discovered and he was arrested and charged guilty of identity fraud and escaping the draft, he was barely acquitted for counts of treason that would have ended in his death. Fargas was given a low priority death sentence, as executions were high in Soothsayer and the Revolution was in full swing, it could have been either a matter months before Fargas was to be executed, or perhaps years, but no one was sure. In the meantime, Fargas was locked in a prison in the capital city to await his impending execution. In March of 2015, Fargas, still alive, made a surprising attempt to send a letter to Roscoe Freire IV himself, apparently attempting to appeal for a pardon, but instead initiated a chain of letters between Fargas and Freire himself over the state and direction of the nation, government, politics, economics and history. In Fargas's 19th and final letter to Freire, he infuriated the Soothsayland dictator who demanded a date on Fargas's execution of January 28th, 2016, Fargas's 30th birthday. Unfortunately for Freire, by the time that date rolled around the Revolution would already be at his doorstep, as his reign was overthrown and he committed suicide just two short weeks later. Upon searching Freire's office, they found all 19 letters from Fargas and freed him and others from prison and, realizing his political genius, appointed him into the Constituional committee. Fargas then was elected into Congress and after and unsuccessful presidential campiagn in 2024, was elected the new congressional speaker. Fargas has announced he will most likely run again for president in 2032. Fargas was found by Eliza Brown in 2018 who apologized for the break-up and the two began going out again, and were married in 2020. The two have no children.
"When the body which governs the people becomes more powerful than the people themselves, that government is obsolete. Your great-grandfather knew that, but you Sir, are a hypocrisy, and when the Revolution knocks upon the door of the Royal Tower, you will finally know the role of goverment."
- Samuel Fargas in his 19th letter to Roscoe Freire IV
